Basic Hydraulic Training Reduces Down Time

All good basic hydraulic training teaches about hydraulic principles, component operation, safety, circuitry, and maintenance. Our on-site training does all that, with a focus on having your personnel learn to:

  • - do a better and faster job of troubleshooting,
  • - prevent hydraulic problems,
  • - extend the life of your hydraulic components, and
  • - get the best possible performance from your hydraulic equipment.

We offer 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day on-site Basic Hydraulic Training sessions that are classroom style, conducted at your facility, applicable to both mobile and industrial hydraulics, and require no previous experience with hydraulics.

On-Site: 1 Day Basic Hydraulics Boot Camp

The things your personnel will learn include:

  • How to read and understand hydraulic schematics
  • How "hydraulics" work
  • What hydraulic components do
  • What pressure compensating and load sensing circuits do
  • The most common causes of hydraulic problems
  • How to prevent those hydraulic problems
  • How to extend the life of hydraulic components
  • How to get the best possible performance from hydraulic equipment

The 1 day Boot Camp is a great course for anyone involved with hydraulics, including maintenance personnel, equipment operators, engineering staff, and individuals who sell hydraulic equipment.

To make the training even more valuable, you can customize the on-site Boot Camp and have your hydraulic schematics incorporated into the training.

On-site training has a minimum of 5 participants.

The training charge for a 1 day Boot Camp at your facility is:

A survey of auto industry executives found the average cost of unplanned auto industry downtime was $22,000 a minute.[1]  .[2] . Downtime costs are much lower for most manufacturers, but it is fairly common for manufacturing downtime to cost thousands of dollars per hour.

On-Site: 2 Day Basic Hydraulics Class

The 2 day Class goes into greater depth than the Boot Camp, covers more hydraulic circuits, and lets your personnel spend more time mastering hydraulic principles, working with hydraulics circuits, and solving hydraulic-related problems.

One of the differences between the 1 day Boot Camp and the 2 day Class is there are times in the Boot Camp when your personnel learn WHAT is happening, without getting into HOW or WHY it is happening. In the 2 day Class, your personnel learn both HOW and WHY.

For example, when discussing the operation of a pressure compensated pump during the 1 day Boot Camp, we might say "when system pressure reaches 2,000 psi, parts inside the pump shift, and the pump produces only enough flow to maintain that 2,000 psi level."

But on the second day of the 2 day class, your personnel would learn how and why those parts inside a pressure compensated pump shift - and that understanding will reinforce their understanding of what a pressure compensated pump does, help them do a better and faster job of troubleshooting pressure compensated pump issues, and better understand how to set a pump's pressure compensator and the system's relief valve in order to get the best possible performance from a hydraulic circuit.

The 2 day class can also be customized by having your hydraulic schematics incorporated into the training.

On-site training has a minimum of 5 participants.

If replacement equipment can be rented, heavy equipment downtime may cost only around $1,600 a day.[3]. This does not include the cost of repairing the equipment, and downtime costs will be higher if replacement equipment isn't readily available.

3 day Basic Hydraulics Course

The 3 day Course expands on the 2 day Basic Hydraulics Class, integrates your hydraulic schematics into the Basic Hydraulics training, goes into greater depth on the function and operation of the components in your hydraulic circuits, and spends a large amount of time discussing potential problems and solutions in various hydraulic circuits.

On-site training has a minimum of 5 participants.

We're an independent training resource. We don't sell products and we don't represent any manufacturers. The only thing we offer is the training and knowledge needed to help your personnel understand hydraulics, with a focus on preventing and resolving problems.

You Set the Final Price for Your Training

A lot of companies offer Basic Hydraulic training. Some charge more than us, others charge less.

A little while back, a potential customer told me "Rob, we'd like to have you do a two-day training class for 8 of our people, but your price is higher than I expected."

When I asked him how much he'd expected to pay, he said "for 8 people, a total of around $1,700 a day for the training, plus your travel and lodging expenses."

So I made him a deal. He'd pay the training deposit based on the full price we'd quoted for the training, but when the training was completed, he'd talk with the folks who attended the training, and then decide whether our final invoice would be based on the price we'd quoted, or based on $1,600 a day for the training, plus travel and lodging expenses.

As you've probably guessed, he paid the full quoted price... and I'm willing to make the same deal with you.

Contact us, let us provide a quote for your training, and have your company pay the deposit based on the price we quote. After the training, I'll ask you whether the invoice for the balance due should be based on the quote, be based on a $1,600 per day training fee, or be based on a training fee of your choice between $1,600 a day and the amount quoted. We'll invoice you for whichever amount you pick.

A final note

While no amount of training completely eliminate downtime, almost all hydraulic training quickly for itself quickly through reduced downtime, lower repair costs, and increased productivity. Companies save money when their personnel do a better and faster job of troubleshooting.

But the real payoff to providing your personnel with basic hydraulic training is the stress you avoid and the money your company saves when your personnel know what it takes to prevent hydraulic problems and get the longest possible life from your hydraulic components. For most companies, preventing just one hydraulic-related breakdown more than pays for the cost of providing all their personnel with basic hydraulic training.
